Vancouver business leaders want to make sure any new rehabilitation program for drug addicts does not go off the rails.
The executive director for the Strathcona Business Improvement Association, John Van Luven, says existing programs are already susceptible to abuse, "We don't seem to be able to enforce the programs that we have now, because there's a bit of abuse of the program."
A telephone survey shows a majority of Vancouver residents believe drug substitution therapies work better than traditional "cold turkey" approaches.
Mayor Sam Sullivan is quoted in the news release as supporting innovative new programs.
